Creating a Path to Better Nutrition
Making Healthy Food Choices Easier Everywhere:
Food Service Guidelines
Every day, millions of Americans rely on the charitable food system, the emergency food system, or their place of work for their meals. Our goal through REACH is to collaborate with partners to educate people on healthier food choices and increase their access to nourishing foods in these crucial locations. We'll achieve this through a variety of strategies including conducting surveys, providing free food service guidelines technical assistance and trainings to interested organizations, and enhancing policy, system, and/or environmental changes.
Interested in improving the food and beverage options at your workplace?
If your organization is located in Newaygo, Oceana, or Lake County, District Health Department #10 can support you in exploring healthier food service guidelines and nutrition standards. Using the CDC’s Food Service Guidelines Assessment Tool, we can help assess current offerings and identify easy ways to create a healthier food environment for staff and visitors.

A Recipe for Wellness:
Fruit & Vegetable Produce Prescription Programs
In addition to advancing food service guidelines, our work includes expanding fruit and vegetable produce prescription programs in our communities. These programs aim to increase consumption of fruits and vegetables in two ways:
1. By increasing the number of places (doctor's offices, dental offices, health departments, federally qualified health centers) newly writing prescriptions and issuing vouchers for produce redeemable at local farmers markets, grocery stores, and food pantries.
2. Through expanding the number of new participants in the fruit and vegetable produce prescription programs.
